Get your will written for free
During the month of October members of the public aged-55 and over are able to get a will written or updated free of charge.
In order to take advantage of 'Free Wills Month', you simply need to contact a participating solicitor to make an appointment. The solicitor will be able to write a simple will for you, or a 'mirror will' if you are married or have a partner.
If you have more complicated arrangements it is still possible to take advantage of the scheme; however you may have to pay a fee to cover additional costs.
Appointments are limited, and are given out on a first come first served basis so it's important to act fast if you are interested in taking up the offer.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
The areas of the country covered by the scheme vary each time the campaign runs (every March and October), but you can find out if it is operating in your area by registering at freewillsmonth.org.
Free Wills Month is supported by charities including RNLI, Age UK, Stroke Association, Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, Prostate Cancer UK, and Marie Curie.
There is no obligation to make a charitable donation, however it is hoped that participants in the scheme will take advantage of the opportunity to leave a legacy.
According to research from Unbiased.co.uk, almost 60 per cent of adults are yet to write a will. If you die without a will your estate will be distributed according to the laws of intestacy, which may not reflect your wishes.
